Upcoming Catholic Youth Events for March - mid April, 2011

Dear all,

Peace of Christ be with you for this next month, and most especially the Lenten Season beyond!

The WYD song contest has ONE UK entry, by my friend and lead singer of Ooberfuse: Cherrie Anderson! So please get yourself and all your mates to vote for her song if you like it! The footage is of Walsingham, and the message of the song focuses on the WYD theme. Don't forget to share the link ;) Voting is free and takes only 5 secs! http://madridmeencanta.org/ficha.php?id=109999207

SPEC are going through some big changes in the near future, so they're looking for 16 keen young Catholics (18-25) particularly from the Diocese of Westminster to volunteer away from home in what is sadly their final year at All Saints Pastoral Centre. If you're interested, check it out: http://www.spec.org.uk/section.asp?id=1666. They are also looking for Senior Programme Leaders as well as volunteers. Visit the RCDOW site for more info.

Please send in any April-Mid May events by Easter Monday, as I will be out of the country from 27th April so will be blitzing my next email out on or around Tuesday 26th April instead. Please also refresh me if you've already sent me information about April and May events back in January!

Lastly, I will not be on emails during the Lenten season (except for emergencies). Neither will I be on facebook. This also means I will not be emailing this information out to the people on my mailing list. If you wish to check what is happening, then you're welcome to view my blog, as it then becomes your free will to seek out the info rather than impose my presence on you! My communications will be limited during this beautiful period of prayer and silence. Thank you for your patience and cooperation in advance :)

Series of Psycho Spirituality talksSaturday 19th March 2011, 16:00-18:00 (and Saturdays following)
Our Lady Of Victories Parish Hall, 235 Kensington High Street, London W8 6SF
Do you think that there is a deep connection between physical health, psychological maturity and spiritual growth? Do you think that we are all called to achieve the interior harmony that makes us truly happy, as God’s dream for each of us? We might get stuck, or experience resentment, insecurity, and conflicts that are difficult to deal with. These can dim the light that burns within us and prevent us from being happier.
This series of workshops, lead by my wonderful SD Sr. Paloma Marchesi of the Carmelite Missionary Sisters, can help us root our life in the only source of trust: God, the Truth beyond tangible reality. It helps to understand our reality: feelings, doubts, conflicts, obstacles, etc.; to accept ourselves as we are and to develop practical tools for a spiritual healing, for living with deep joy and satisfaction, and for managing mature relationships. The series works as follows:
Saturday 19th March 2011, 16:00-18:00: "How to handle emotions" (refreshments offered)
Saturday 26th March 2011, 16:00-18:00: "Understanding difficult relationships and working through them" (refreshments offered)
Saturday 2nd April 2011, 16:00-18:00: "Centering Prayer" (refreshments offered)
Saturday 9th April 2011, 09:00-12:00: "Forgiveness and Reconciliation" (please bring packed lunch for the meal sharing)
Cost: A voluntary donation will be asked and dedicated to the personal needs of Sr.Paloma and her community. Feel free to invite anyone who might be interested in this topic! It will be great!
For more info: www.ourladyofvictories.org.uk, contemplativeolov@gmail.com.

Frassati Society meal and talk
Sunday 20th March 2011, 17:15
Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 36 Nightingale Square, Balham, SW12 8QN
The Frassati Society is a young adult apostolate which combines prayer, service of the poor, and community (specifically, hiking!) in the spirit of Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati. At his beatification in 1990, Pope John Paul II named Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati 'The Man of the Beatitudes' - a model for young Christian living.  Each month as we come together for Mass and prayer, fellowship, food and formation, we will explore the richness and beauty of Jesus' teaching as we look at a different Beatitude each month. Fr Emmanuel CFR will be leading this session. As we are moved to live the Beatitudes more profoundlly in our life, the model of Pier Giorgio Frassati will be an example of how we can live out this call. The night kicks off with Adoration @ 17:15.
For more information, please contact Laura Cuthbertson on laura@hgbalham.com.

Catholic Underground London
Saturday 26th March 2011, 19:30
Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 36 Nightingale Square, Balham, SW12 8QN
We finally have the pleasure of introducing RISE THEATRE! If you haven’t seen them before then you are in for a real treat. RISE will provide a mix of comedy, sketches, and live music.  Have a look at what’s in store: www.risetheatre.co.uk. But that’s not all!  Supporting Rise we have up and coming singing sensation Alena. From the East side of London, Alena will be performing some great tracks for us with an acoustic/Gospel/Soul kind of a feel, and all this is only the second half of the evening!
To get us started we have the amazing Holy Hour, which includes Adoration, worship music, Confessions, Evening Prayer and Benediction. For many this is a highlight of the evening – so don’t be late – as you really don’t want to miss out.
More and more people are finding out about Catholic Underground and they are coming from all over. Definitely invite your friends, but why not invite a group from your Church? Lent is the perfect time to do something new and they may never have seen the Church like this before! Recommended donation: £5. For more info visit http://catholicunderground.co.uk!

Movie Premiere of Emilio Estevez's The Way
Date TBC but defo on the weekend of 15th April!
Location TBC
Ok... so most of you know me, and most of you know that I love El Camino. This movie casts people's minds to The Way of St. James (El Camino) - the hardships, the rewards, the Spirit, the communities... the meaning of Life and Love. If you have read some of my previous reflections on LISS, you may have discovered that it was on El Camino that I experienced my conversion. El Camino was the way that brought me to encounter Christ, in the Holy Spirit, and through the Blessed Virgin Mary. Considering El Camino is still very much alive in my heart (and will always be), I would like to invite ANYONE and EVERYONE to come and watch the Premiere of Martin Sheen's The Way with me somewhere in the West End. It is a movie NOT to be missed, and I shall feel sorry for the person who ends up sitting next to me... I hope they will bring lots of tissues! WATCH THIS SPACE and try to keep your diaries free for the Friday or Saturday evenings of this weekend as long as you can until I find out more!

Holy Week Retreat
Friday 15th- Sunday 17th April 2011
Diocesan House of Prayer, Abbotswick, Navestock Side, Brentwood CM14 5SH
Fr. Stefan Park, OSA, will lead this special weekend retreat at the start of Holy Week and will examine God's calling in the light of Jesus' calling of the disciples and the women in the Gospels. Despite three years of intensive training, Jesus' disciples, in the main, misunderstood their calling. At the end, only the women and John remained. And yet they all, apart from Judas, recovered and bore much fruit. How do we understand this? What lessons are there here for us? The retreat will take place at Abbotswick House of Prayer near Brentwood
For more info and a booking form, see www.free2become.org.

"Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewellery or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight." 1 Pet 3:3-4
